Tesla CEO Elon Musk is looking to hire people for his Artificial Intelligence team. Musk took to Twitter and posted a unique recruitment ‘pitch’. He wrote, “Join AI at Tesla! It reports directly to me & we meet/email/text almost every day.”
Musk in further replies to his tweets also clarified that he doesn’t care if the person has even graduated high school or not. “A PhD is definitely not required. All that matters is a deep understanding of AI & ability to implement NNs in a way that is actually useful (latter point is what’s truly hard). Don’t care if you even graduated high school.” For the uninitiated, NNs in Musk’s tweet refers to neural networks. In another tweet, Musk reiterated that educational background is something he isn’t interested in but coding skills are vital. “Educational background is irrelevant, but all must pass hardcore coding test,” he said in another tweet.
This isn’t the first time Musk has spoken about college degrees is not needed for anyone to be successful in life. In a 2014 interview to a German publication, Musk had said, “If somebody graduated from a great university, that may be an indication that they will be capable of great things, but it’s not necessarily the case. If you look at, say, people like Bill Gates, or Larry Ellison, Steve Jobs, these guys didn’t graduate from college, but if you had a chance to hire them, of course that would be a good idea.”
Musk and Tesla have been riding on a high in recent times. Tesla’s stock has hit an all-time high and if it continues to grow then Musk stands to earn as much as $346 million. Musk is one of those exceptions when it comes to taking salaries as he doesn’t take even a single penny but earns when Tesla hits certain financial milestones.
